Groundbreaking ceremony for KICKS’ Nordic omnichannel warehouse

Last week, the groundbreaking ceremony was held for KICKS’ new highly automated omnichannel warehouse, located in Rosersberg outside Stockholm. KICKS and partners such as Bockasjö and Kilenkrysset were present. The 29,000-square-metre facility will handle the supply of goods to stores as well as customer orders for the company’s fast-growing e-commerce business. The new warehouse, together with the previously launched in-store e-commerce order picking solution, will enable short and fast lead times in all three KICKS markets – Sweden, Norway and Finland.
Earlier this year, it was announced that KICKS is making the largest investment in the company’s history to future-proof its warehousing and logistics solution. The total investment for the new omnichannel storage facility is expected to exceed 200 million, and the facility is expected to be operational in early 2024. The rationale behind the decision to invest in a new warehouse is to secure an efficient, scalable and sustainable logistics solution in all the company’s markets, while creating the conditions for continued profitable growth as KICKS expands further.
“Our new warehouse will future-proof KICKS’ business and it is very pleasing that its implementation is going according to plan thanks to the close and fruitful partnership with companies such as Bockasjö and Kilenkrysset. The next important milestone is when we start installing automation inside the warehouse in November. The automated solution, which is based on the latest technology, will provide us with greatly improved productivity and scalability to support a continued profitable growth journey for many years to come,” says David Heeroma, COO of KICKS.
KICKS has chosen Bockasjö and Kilenkrysset as its partners to develop the property for the new warehouse. Both companies have extensive experience in creating modern, efficient and environmentally friendly logistics buildings.
“We are delighted to be part of the KICKS success story and the collaboration that this project represents. The omnichannel warehouse will be built with high sustainability standards and will be rated according to the BREEAM-SE Excellent environmental certification. For example, it will be powered with electricity from solar panels and have the possibility to charge electric vehicles,” says Joakim Hedin, CEO of Bockasjö.
“We are pleased to be part of the important and positive expansion of KICKS, one of the largest operators on the Swedish market. The facility will provide all the conditions for growth, both nationally and internationally,” says Jan Persson, CEO of Kilenkrysset.
KICKS’ partner for the automated solution is KNAPP, one of the global market leaders in delivering smooth and efficient warehouse flows.
