Property development company Bockasjö AB has signed an agreement with Apoteket AB to build a new 20,000-square-meter logistics center in Eskilstuna Logistics Park, outside of Eskilstuna. Apoteket will rent the facility in a long-term lease.

Construction will begin shortly, and the new logistics center will be move-in ready in February 2022. Bockasjö will own the logistics center, which can be expanded by approximately 12,000 square meters.

Bockasjö has acquired 96,000 square meters from Eskilstuna Municipality, of which approximately 60,000 square meters will be used for the new logistics center. Negotiations are underway for the construction of a new building on the plot next to Apoteket’s new logistics center.

Eskilstuna has a strategically advantageous location in Mälardalen. 35% of Sweden’s population can be reached within a 100 km radius, making Eskilstuna an ideal location in terms of logistics and the continued growth of e-commerce, where development and consumer demand are pushing a preference for same-day delivery of goods.

Bockasjö will complete around 110,000 square meters of new logistics space in Sweden in 2021 – the same amount that was completed in 2020.

“Landing such a huge deal in competition with other players in these unusual times is a demonstration of strength in many ways. We’re pleased to have Apoteket as a tenant in the new logistics center, which will be environmentally certified in accordance with a BREEAM standard after its completion. Solar cells are a natural part of the environmental installations that will be used in this property,” says Joakim Hedin, CEO of Bockasjö AB.

“This significant investment and establishment in Eskilstuna Logistics Park is highly gratifying, and we welcome Apoteket AB and Bockasjö to Eskilstuna. This project will generate many new and important jobs, and further strengthen our position as an attractive, sustainable area for establishment,” says David Hofmann, CEO of Eskilstuna Logistik och Etablering AB.

“Our e-commerce business is growing extremely quickly and more and more customers are discovering that it’s possible, convenient and easy to buy medications and other pharmacy products from our online store. Starting our own modern warehouse for handling this development is a strategic decision, and the purpose is for us to have total control over the entire e-commerce business in order to develop it optimally moving forward,” says Wictoria Glans, head of the e-commerce business area at Apoteket.
